Intelligence, education and experience are all helpful ingredients for being successful in business, but one key competency missing in most leaders today is agility.
Leadership agility is the ability to bring flexibility and alertness into your leadership brand. It enables you to make leadership decisions by responding quickly to changing conditions and a variety of circumstances.
The consequences to a lack of agility are unmet goals, lost productivity and lost revenues that derail success, not to mention emotional and mental turmoil that can destroy your organization.
What if you could demonstrate emotional control so you could respond resiliently to the world around you?
What if you could move freely through your responsibilities without feeling stress or struggle?
What if practicing agility offered you the best chance of personal success beyond measure?
I invite you to learn two specific ways mentally strong leaders embrace agility:
1. Agile leaders carry out responsibilities with purpose. They have a clear line-of -sight of both smooth paths and obstacle courses. They successfully and repeatedly zig-zag their way to successful solutions.
Agile leaders remain in control of their state of mind by remaining in the present moment. They never entertain thoughts that allow circumstances or situations to temporary dictate how they feel and what they think. Retreating to the safety of familiarity and sameness until the turbulence settles is not the answer.
Followers, clients, teams and organizations deserve purpose-driven leadership. Agile leaders make decisions every day, affecting life and business, all the while retaining control of their state of mind.
2. Agile leaders with a history of performing their role feeling comfortable and confident, are not afraid to confront change. The catalyst for change may be positive or negative, welcomed or unwelcomed.
Being an agile and adaptable leader means embracing an ability to see the different undercurrent patterns and movements of change by being in a constant state of readiness to respond to any situation or circumstance with well-timed and appropriate actions.
Leaders who “flow like water” enjoy a path clear of any resistance, allowing change to move them from ordinary to extraordinary.
The recent passing of boxing legend Muhammed Ali reminds all of us that agility is essential, whether in sports competition or in business.
